Google to IPO

Google today made it official that they are to hold an Initial Public Offering (IPO), in-line with USA business laws forcing a company to be made public once it reaches a certain size. The buzz particularly in the last few days reminded me of the pre-2000 dot-com industry crash; back then there was similar excitement over IPO's of dot-com companies, companies were dramatically over-valued and companies crashed. Now we have moved on, netrepreneurs realise that with solid business models, there is money to be made on the internet.

I'd love to buy shares in Google, but I have a feeling that a lot of amateur sharedealers will also be bagging-up the shares pretty quickly. And seeing as Google plans to auction off it's shares to execute the IPO, the massive interest of those amateurs will push up the share price higher than it could possibly be ever again.

Rain

I love the rain. I love it when it pours down so much that the centre of a city is almost flooded, and the noise on the roof of the bus is like nothing you've heard before. Rain and clouds is the best weather by which to enjoy London, and today it rained more heavy than it has in a long while. In the typical style of things here in the UK, a problem such as heavy rain can cause almost endless problems in British infrastructure, such as the transport network. A few months ago there was a documentary on the BBC explaining how little it would take to bring the transport system here to it's knees - in the documentary it took one accident on the road network to trigger a line of events that eventually led to two aircraft crashing over London - little more than twelve hours after the initial accident.

Today I experienced at first-hand how a thing such as the rain can end all hopes of a simple journey home to the suburbs, only 15 minutes normally form central London. I believe this country is truly over-crowded; I heard recently from a reputable source that the United Kingdom is 12 times more densely populated than the United States. This has a massive effect on the internal workings of this country. Also, London serves as the world's most busy air-travel hub - the London airport network is comprised of four airports; together they make-up the busiest air-system in the world. So, the huge explosion in population and London serving as a world transport hub both contribute to the strain placed on the British transport infrastructure.

Should the United Kingdom take a step backwards in-aid of taking steps forward? Should we have more stringent immigration rules, and/or tighter limits on the number of flights than can use our aiports?

I don't quite know why but the rain epitomises the way I feel right now. It's not quite a happy feeling, it's actually quite lonely but it's a feeling I feel is fundamental to me and my life.

Favourite hot beverage?

What's your favourite hot drink?

Personally, a wet latte with peppermint syrup from Starbucks is mine. Yum.

What about yours?
