Difficulty Sleeping

It's 03.20am, and I can't sleep. I took two sleeping pills over an hour ago and it seems that they haven't helped very much. So I decided to get up and do some work that really needs to be done.

Yesterday myself and a few others had a quite a nice, in-formal meeting in Starbucks to discuss how we think TakingITGlobal can be successful in the UK. It was nice to meet the new faces, and to see the ones that I already know. Tomorrow, I will be going to the Reach for the Sky - Young Futures event, hosted by BSkyB in London; should be interesting. I'll be sure to report anything worthwhile.

The Unsaid

I just watched the film 'The Unsaid', starring Andy Garcia (Michael). Andy Garcia's character plays a psychiatrist who's son commits suicide when he is 16 years old. He then goes into a three year depression, in which he and his wife divorce, she moves away with their daughter and he stops treating patients. After three years, an ex-student of Michael who now works at a boys school for 'disturbed' children, requests his help on a particular case. The case is a young boy (Tommy) who witnessed his father murder his mother after he caught her being unfaithful. Michael (Andy Garcia) agrees to help on the case and talks to the boy; this process allows him to mourn the death of his son better.

About half-way through the film, you get to see the true picture of Tommy; he violently kills a young girl as she was trying to seduce him. Tommy begins to date Michael's young daughter Shelly without her father knowing. As part of his working on Tommy's case, Michael visits Tommy's father in jail for further information. Tommy's father admits that the man his ex-wife was having sex with was actually his young son (10 years old at the time), Tommy. The film ends with Tommy trying to commit suicide-by-train, and Michael risks his life to save him. Successfully.

This was a very disturbing and clever film which raises various issues. Teen suicide, domestic violence, violent death and very briefly, incest are all touched upon. It turns out that Michael's son took his own life because his own psychiatrist was sexually abusing him in therapy sessions.

If any of you have seen the film, I invite you to post your comments on the film and let me know what you thought.

I'm an Apple convert

Yes! At last, I bought a brand new iBook, and I'm posting this update on an Airport network right now; using Safari of course.

I got a great deal. I paid £679 for an Airport enabled, G3 iBook with 384mb RAM - it's brand new. I got iLife 04 and an ePac case for free. I never would have guessed that one of my neighbours has a wireless network, but I guess he never would have thought that someone would hijack it. Oh well.

I'm a plane-spotter

It's official; I'm a self-confessed plane spotter. Since I was a kid I had this love affair with aviation. I used to go to Heathrow Airport's spectator area, while it was still open; it recently closed due to 'security reasons'.

Commercial aviation has a had a profound impact on the world as we know it. Diplomacy is now real-time due to diplomats and politicians being able to travel great distances in short amounts of time. Commerce and trade has also become a lot faster since the widespread introduction of high-speed air travel. It therefore has an effect on social development, worldwide. For example, people can come together at world summits, UN General Assembly meetings etc.

NOTE: The picture I posted with this update is a British Airways Boeing 777-236ER, taken in Kuwait.

Feel the wind...

Feel the wind, "the siren soul", from
a soft breeze to a hurricane's
gale, the wind is our ally.
for withuot the monument of air
there would be no aroma

"The aroma of coffee you know, is our
most powerful story, so full of promise
and expectations, and memories, so
seductive is hard to resist

"Who could resist like the
breeze, in coffee relax the body
and suspend time, yet like
the gale the emigrate and
stimulate, so honour the wind in
all its dimensions

"Do humans have emotions that
range from so gentle to so intense?
a young siren asked

"Yes", the siren answered...
